Tax-Exempt Purchasing

Tax-Exempt Purchasing

Eligible resellers, government agencies, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and other qualifying entities may apply for tax-exempt purchasing with UNINOVA Safety Supply.

Please note that tax-exempt status is not automatic. Eligibility is subject to applicable state requirements, formal document review, and final approval by UNINOVA.

Who May Qualify

Tax-exempt purchasing may be available to:

  • Resellers purchasing products strictly for resale

  • Qualified government agencies

  • Qualified educational institutions

  • Qualified charitable, religious, or nonprofit organizations

  • Other organizations holding a valid, state-recognized exemption certificate

Important Note: Businesses purchasing personal protective equipment (PPE) for their own employees, facilities, projects, or internal operations generally do not qualify for a resale exemption.

Required Documentation

To apply, applicants must provide the following:

  • Legal business or organization name

  • Business contact information

  • Applicable state of operation

  • A valid resale or tax exemption certificate

  • Certificate number

  • Expiration date (if applicable)

An Employer Identification Number (EIN), standard business license, or basic business account is insufficient to establish sales-tax-exempt status on its own.

How to Apply

  1. Submit an Application: Complete the UNINOVA Business Account Application.

  2. Upload Documents: Attach your valid resale or tax exemption certificate.

  3. Verification: Allow time for our team to review and verify your documentation with the applicable state authorities.

  4. Approval Notification: Wait for official confirmation that your tax-exempt purchasing status has been activated.

  5. Shop: Sign in to your approved UNINOVA business account before placing an order to ensure taxes are automatically waived at checkout.

Review and Approval Process

Submitting documentation does not guarantee automatic approval. During the review process, UNINOVA reserves the right to:

  • Verify certificates directly with the issuing state authority.

  • Request additional or updated documentation.

  • Reject incomplete, expired, or invalid certificates.

  • Reinstate tax collection if documentation expires or is no longer applicable.

Terms and Conditions

  • Account Specificity: Tax-exempt status applies only to the approved UNINOVA account and eligible transactions. The purchasing organization on the order must exactly match the name on the certificate holder.

  • Jurisdiction: The certificate must be valid for the state where the order is being shipped. Different shipping locations may require separate, state-specific documentation.

  • Retroactive Taxes: Orders placed and processed prior to official tax-exempt approval will include standard sales tax, which cannot be refunded by UNINOVA.

  • Maintenance: Customers are responsible for notifying UNINOVA when certificate information changes. Expired certificates must be renewed and re-uploaded before future tax-exempt orders can be placed.

Tax Disclaimer

Sales-tax laws and exemption requirements vary significantly by state and transaction type. UNINOVA Safety Supply does not provide tax or legal advice. Customers bear sole responsibility for ensuring all submitted documentation is accurate, complete, and legally valid.
